
It’s officially Spooky Season in Oxford! With Halloween falling on a Wednesday this year, the events are starting early...like, tonight! We’ve broken down all the Halloween activities in town for your college student There are even some chances to win cash prizes in costume contests – so make sure to let your son/daughter know about all the haunted happenings coming up in the next week!
OPD Haunted House
This is the only time you want to hear that your kid is at the police station! The 11th Annual Oxford Police Department haunted house starts tomorrow nightand goes through Saturday October 27. Admission is $5 at the door, which benefits OPD’s summer camp for kids. The Haunted House is open from 6-9 pm, and concessions are available.
Library Sports Bar Haunted House
This popular sports bar is hosting their 12th annual haunted house October 29 and 30. The haunted house is $7 per person and includes a 10-minute guided tour. All proceeds benefit the local animal shelter. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tours continue until 10 p.m.!
Funky’s Costume Contest If your student plans to go all out for their costume this Halloween, send them to Funky’s sports bar! They are having a costume contest with a prize of $400 cash! Second place will receive $100 cash prize and awards will be announced for wittiest and sexiest costumes. DJ Kova is playing all night, and they will have various drink specials!
American Escape Games Halloween Dash
We’ve all heard of escape rooms where you have one hour to solve clues to escape, or you fail. Now American Escape Games is taking to the streets of Oxford for a competitive, puzzle-solving scavenger hunt! Teams of 2 to 5 players will go head to head in a race to find a “toxic” pumpkin. The top 3 teams will win a cash prize, and all teams will be entered in a drawing for additional prizes! A portion of the proceeds will go to Oxford Medical Ministries Clinic to help uninsured working citizens of Lafayette and Yalobusha counties get access to medical care and prescriptions. If scavenger hunts aren’t your thing, AEG has the super spooky Caretaker escape room that might be a fun Halloween activity, too!
Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Oxford Film Festival is hosting a Rocky Horror Picture Show screening at the Powerhouse on Halloween night! Tickets are $15 in advance (online) and $20 at the door. A $10 prop bag is available for purchase so you can be in on the fun! The doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 8! Go do the “Time Warp” and support the Oxford Film Festival!
APO Haunted House
The Alpha Psi Omega Theatre Honor Society on campus is hosting a haunted house in Isom Hall this weekend! This event is sure to be spooky with Ole Miss Theatre students in full horror makeup and costumes using their acting skills to scare visitors! Mark your calendars because this haunted house is only open Friday night from 10:30 p.m. to midnight.Tickets are $5 at the door and proceeds benefit APO.
Ghoulow Run
Ole Miss Campus Recreation is hosting a FREE glow run this weekend! Runners and walkers alike can take on the Mile of Misery or the Freaky 5k at South Campus Trails. The run will begin at 6:30 pm, and runners will be decked out in glow sticks and light-up goodie courtesy of Campus Rec!
Pi Kappa Phi Philanthropy Haunted House
The Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity is hosting Pi Kapp Horror Story, benefiting their national philanthropy, The Ability Experience. The Ability Experience works with those living with disabilities to promote the abilities of all people and to remove the labels that unfairly define them. The haunted house costs $5 at the door starting at 5 pm.
Track 61 Costumes & Cocktails
This Italian restaurant is hosting their first annual costume party on Saturday, October 27, starting at 7 p.m.!There will be a costume contest with a $250 prize for 1stplace! There will also be several drink specials like Monster Margs and Spooky Shots!
Terror in Turner Haunted House
Ole Miss Campus Recreation’s “Terror in Turner” isn’t your typical haunted house. The event is a combination of a haunted house and wellness activities. The event hopes to help people of all ages make healthy choices in a season of sugar-overload from 5 until 8 p.m.
Spooky Sift-a-Thon
The UM Compost Program is holding a Spooky Sift-a-Thon this year! The event will combine composting pre-consumer food waste on campus into rich garden soil with fun prizes and a costume contest!
Spooky Physics Night
The Ole Miss Physics and Astronomy Department is hosting a hair-raising night in Lewis Hall tomorrow, Oct. 26! And they mean hair-raising literally! Spooky experiments will be taking place, like using electricity to make your hair stand up! The night will include other ‘nefarious’ experiments involving a bed of nails, lasers, superconductors and electromagnets. All harmless activities, of course! The night will also include food and fun, a Halloween costume contest for children, and liquid nitrogen ice cream for everybody, ‘freshly’ made at -320 F degrees.
Hack-o-Lantern Challenge
The Ole Miss Library (this IS the real library) will be holding their first Hack-o-Lantern contest in the IDEALab! This contest takes pumpkin decorating to a whole new level. Contests can go high-tech with led lights, motion sensors, and more to create an e-pumpkin. They can also go more traditional with intricate carving or painting. You can compete as a team or solo!
